What's Happening in Coplay: Early and Mid-October 2026
Published September 21, 2026 by Tim Tepes
This is the newest Coplay community update, covering the first half of October 2026 with fresh local news, events, and school happenings in Coplay Borough and the surrounding Lehigh Valley. In this edition: the 21st Breakin' Clay for the Cure memorial shoot at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays, the haunted season opening at the Whitehall Parkway, the Zephyrs' October home stretch, and fall foliage day trips from the borough. Everything below was checked during web research on September 21, 2026; times and venues can change, so confirm with the organizers before heading out.
If you are planning the next couple of weeks, the recent guides still point the way: our week of September 28 edition covered the library's Book and Bake Sale and the SteelStacks Oktoberfest opening weekend, What's Next in Coplay: Late September and October 2026 lays out the full fall festival calendar, and the week of September 21 edition carries the Celtic Classic and borough bingo notes. This post adds the newest items and fresh dates on top of those.
A Big Weekend in the Borough: Book Sale, Bingo, and a Clay Shoot for a Cause
The first weekend of October is packed close to home. The Coplay Public Library's fall Book and Bake Sale runs Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3, 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM both days, per the library's page at coplaypl.org. The Whitehall Lions Club follows with its cash bingo on Sunday, October 4 at St. Peter's Church on South Fifth Street in Coplay, the $200 jackpot bingo covered in our mid-September guide.
Then the biggest charity event of the month: the 21st Annual Breakin' Clay for the Cure Memorial Shoot on Sunday, October 11 at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays, with registration starting at 7:45 AM. The 2026 beneficiary is the Allentown Rescue Mission, and details on registration and fees are posted on the event's site at breakingclayforthecure.com. It draws shooters from across the region each fall, and there is still time to gather a team. The same day, the Whitehall Township recreation department has an adult bus trip on the calendar for Sunday, October 11, with destination and details to be announced on the township's parks and recreation events page.
Haunted Season Opens at the Whitehall Parkway
October 2 kicks off the spooky stretch at the Whitehall Parkway on South Church Street, minutes from Coplay. The Haunted Parkway, organized by the Whitehall Fire Department, runs Fridays and Saturdays from October 2 through October 31, and the township's haunted hayrides run the same window. Both are listed on the Whitehall Township rec events calendar; check there for scare levels, ticket details, and Saturday versus Friday times, which can differ.
A tamer fall tradition lands later in the month: the Ironton Rail Trail's Fall Historical Walk on Saturday, October 24, starting at the Red Barn in the Whitehall Parkway, per the Ironton Rail Trail events page. It is a guided, family-friendly walk through the area's industrial history, a nice counterbalance to the haunted attractions.
Whitehall-Coplay School District: News, Meetings, and a Reunion
Coplay is served by the Whitehall-Coplay School District, and there is real news this week. The Morning Call reported on September 19 that parents and charter school leaders have sued the district, demanding it restore yellow bus service for charter school students after the service was cut as part of the district's budget work. The suit is a developing story; district families can follow it in The Morning Call's coverage and watch whitehallcoplay.org for any service updates from the district.
On the governance side, the district's revised meeting schedule takes effect October 12, 2026, with board meetings held in the Board Room at the Education Center on Zephyr Boulevard. The October committee meetings are set for Monday, October 26 starting at 5:00 PM: Finance and Personnel first, followed consecutively by Education and Student Activities, then Operations and Transportation. Agendas post on Keystone Agenda, the district's public meeting platform.
A fun one for local alumni: the Whitehall High School Class of 1986 is holding its 40th reunion on Saturday, October 17 from 6:00 to 11:00 PM at the West Coplay Maennerchor, right here in Coplay, and the district is helping spread the word on its homepage. And on the field, the Zephyrs keep their 100th season rolling through October: a road game at Emmaus on Friday, October 9, a home game against William Allen on Thursday, October 15, a road trip to Parkland on Friday, October 23, and a home finale against Allentown Central Catholic on Friday, October 30, all kickoffs at 7:00 PM at Zephyr Stadium unless noted. The full schedule is on the district and team pages.
Fall Foliage Season: Where to Catch the Color
Peak color in the Lehigh Valley typically lands around mid-October, which makes the next few weekends ideal for a foliage drive. The best-known local run is the Jim Thorpe Fall Foliage Festival, which fills the first three weekends of October in the borough at the edge of the Poconos, and the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway runs autumn leaf excursions daily from October 1 into mid-November. Both are an easy day trip from Coplay and consistently draw big color-season crowds, so go early in the day.
Closer to home, the self-guided Lehigh Valley Covered Bridge Tour highlights seven historic bridges in Lehigh and Northampton counties, including Bogert's Bridge in Allentown's Lehigh Parkway, built in 1841 and open to pedestrians, and Geiger's Covered Bridge in North Whitehall, built in 1860 near the Lehigh Valley Zoo. Red spans against October color are worth the short drive. And you do not have to leave town for a good walk: the Ironton Rail Trail loops about nine miles through Coplay, Whitehall, and North Whitehall, with trailheads near Chestnut Street and Levans Road in Coplay.
Borough Save-the-Dates and a Local Stop
A few dates to put on the calendar now. Coplay Borough council holds its workshop meeting Tuesday, October 6 and its regular meeting Tuesday, October 13, both at 7:00 PM in the municipal building. The Coplay Halloween Parade is set for Tuesday, October 20 at 7:00 PM, staging on Chestnut Street and routing toward the Saengerbund, with full details in our late-September and October guide. And for a meal before or after any of it, Samuel Owens Restaurant and Bar on Chestnut Street in Coplay is a long-running local favorite, a short walk from 117 S 9th St.
Autumn Living Near 117 S 9th St
Coplay's calendar peaks in October: fund-raisers, haunted trails, football nights, and foliage drives all within a short drive of this move-in-ready ranch twin on a mature corner lot. The covered patio is made for crisp-season coffee and the first fall evenings.
